What is the history of the Customs House?
The Customs House was built in 1906 as an immigration station for Galveston, which received the second greatest number of immigrants behind Elis Island, and was closed after the 1933 Hurricane. The building was purchased by UTMB, and with a grant from the Economic Development Administration, was converted into the Life Science Incubator.
